The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz

Oddly this movie is not the first attempt to put author L. Frank Baum’s children’s books to film but it is always considered the best version. It is done in such a merry way that you enjoy and then on another level it is a true milestone in imaginative filmmaking in the same way movies such as “Star Wars” and “Blade Runner” have gone on to do the same. So many images from this movie rush into my thoughts as they take me to a time when films could be astonishing but always retain their innocence. “The Wizard of Oz” is a movie that is recognised as a masterpiece and is one of the few films that will be passed down from generation to generation with almost certainty. This film was a technical achievement back in the day and although other films have come along and featured greater technology, there is something about this film that despite taking you back to friendlier era in the film industry, also never seems to look old and that’s because of the wondrous world it creates.
